Floating Floor with Solid Wood Floor

Floating Floor on Existing Solid Floor

Floating floors are very popular in renovation projects, this type of floor construction can be laid onto any existing concrete floor and is an alternative to a screed between battens or a  aluminium plate method. Floating floors provide a level of thermal insulation even when floor build up needs to be kept to a minimum.

This type of installation is used when the existing floor cannot be altered. The panels are designed to be laid over the existing timber or concrete floor and are grooved to allow the pipework to be installed within the panels. The floating floor method is ideal for existing properties where the biggest challenge for adding to an existing floor (retro fit) is the floor height thats why our panels are kept to a minimum of 25mm thick plus the structural flooring .

The panels have a metallized coating which acts as a radiant surface providing an even heat transfer. When using the floating floor method it is important to remember that the floor panels are a minimum of 25mm plus structural floor. Careful consideration should be taken when choosing the finished floor e.g hardwood flooring 18mm can be laid straight over the floating floor panels, 9mm laminate would require a structural base.

The floating floor panels are covered with either

  • Brio-Board or chipboard and a floor finish.
  • Structural finished floor e.g Hardwood Flooring 18mm minimum.

Product specification

  • Board thickness and size 25mm x 1200 x 1200
  • Board density  EPS 150
  • Heat output 150mm pipe centres approx 60watts per m2
Heat output 200mm pipe centres approx 50watts per m2

UK underfloor heating floating floor panels are a high density polystyrene insulation and can be used to enhance the floors thermal properties. The panels are pre-grooved at 150mm or 200mm pipe centres. Once the boards have been laid  the underfloor heating pipes are simply pressed  into the grooves.
