2 Loops in a Room When installing an underfloor heating pack into a single room it is laid in 2 equal loops. Laying 2 equal loops means when your underfloor heating turns on it will warm up equally. Your loops do not need to be exactly equal just lay pipework in half of the room with 1 loop and the other half in the 2nd loop. 3 or 4 runs of fixing rail should be laid dependent on the length of room and clip every 1m-1.5m.

1 Loop in a Room Lay the fixing rail so there is 3 or 4 runs of fixing rail dependent on the length of room. lay the fixing rail 500mm away from the wall where the pipework enters the room and 300mm at the oppersite side fix these in place using insulation clips. Lay the underfloor heating pipe in to the fixing rail and clip the pipe in between the rails and on the ends.
When installing underfloor heating into 2 rooms up to 20sqm each, Each room is laid in 1 loop per room (Maximum loop length of 120m). These rooms should be controlled by 2 thermostats & actuators (1 thermostat in each room). Below is a drawing showing how to lay your pipework in 1 room using 1 loop. 3 or 4 runs of fixing rail should be laid dependent on the length of room and clip every 1m-1.5m.
When installing underfloor heating into a Full House or Ground Floor your Manifold should ideally be located in a central position so that your pipework doesn’t run through rooms it is not going to be heating. You will have instructions showing pipe lengths & pipe centre’s for each room some rooms may have more than 1 loop per room dependent on the size (Maximum loop length of 120m). Each room will be controlled with a thermostat smaller rooms maybe controlled with another room for example KITCHEN & UTILITY, HALL & WC. 3 or 4 runs of fixing rail should be laid dependent on the length of room and clip every 1m-1.5m.
When installing underfloor heating into a timber floor at 200mm centre’s pipework is usually laid as 2 runs per joists (if joist are at 400mm centre’s). Notch the end of the joists about 100mm from wall this will carry UFH pipe coming into the room and the pipework turning into the next joist see Drawing below (Maximum loop length of 120m). Insulation or nail Clips should be every 1m-1.5m.
Joists at 400mm Centres
When installing underfloor heating into a timber floor at 150mm centres pipework is usally laid at 3 runs in 1 joist and 2 runs in the next (if joist are at 400mm centres). Notch the end of the joists about 100mm from wall then every joist will need to be notched at different ends dependent on where the pipe needs to cross into next joist see Drawing below (Maximum loop length of 120m). Insulation or Nail clips should be every 1m-1.5m.
When installing underfloor heating into a timber floor at 150mm centres pipework is usually laid at 3 runs in each joist (if joist are at 450mm centres). Notch the end of the joists about 100mm every other notch should be big enough to take 2 pipes. Also you will need to notch the other end of the joists, every other joist should be notched at opposite ends to the notch where the pipework comes in see Drawing below (Maximum loop length of 120m). Insulation or Nail clips should be every 1m-1.5m.
When installing underfloor heating into aluminium plates the joists will need to be 400mm centre’s as the aluminium plates are 390mm wide the pipework is clipped into the grooves, 2 runs per joist. Cover approximately 80 percent of the floor with the aluminium plates. Notch the end of the joists about 100mm from the wall this will carry the UFH pipe coming into the room and the pipework turning into the next joist see Drawing below (Maximum loop length of 120m). Clips should be nailed when the pipe cross’s the joists.
When installing underfloor heating into a floating floor, the floor panels need laid and cut to fit the room size. The pipework is then pushed into the grooves so no need for any clips.
