There are a number of different types of underfloor heating, the first major difference is how the heat is generated, is it via hot water from your boiler, or electric heating pads. The second consideration to make is whether you need a ‘single zone’ underfloor heating system or whether your needs will be better met by installing a ‘multi-zone’ underfloor heating system. The crucial distinction between the two relies on what you need from your system, do you need to heat a single room or multiple?
A single zone underfloor heating system is designed for heating a single zone or floor at a time, they operate via a single underfloor heating manifold. With a single zone underfloor heating system you can still control your heating via a smart thermostat, however, instead of being able to control multiple rooms you will only be able to control the single room attached to this system. A single zone system is ideal for people wanting to add underfloor heating to a single room or zone, such as heating new extension, a cellar conversion, or even heating a conservatory.
Our single zone underfloor heating systems use warm water to heat the house, the hot water is directed through the manifold via a zone valve and a thermostatic mixer valve.
Multi-zone underfloor heating systems allow you to heat a number of different rooms or zones via a combination of thermostats. This type of underfloor heating system allows you to control the temperature in multiple rooms, meaning you can turn off, or turn down the heat in rooms that are not in use, reducing energy wastage. One of the main differences between a single-zone and a multi-zone system is that the latter is controlled via a wiring centre that controls the flow of water through each individual loop. This type of system allows you to control each zone via programmable thermostats which is ideal for larger homes.
